1st Place at Whidbey Island
The band had a fantastic season-ending weekend
at the Whidbey Island Highland Games, where our Grade
4 band took 1st place out of 7, our drummers took 1st
and our piping quartet came away with 2nd. Several of
our members did well in solo competitions, while our
fundraising food booth had its most profitible weekend
ever, bringing in much-needed income to our Scotland
fund. See the NWJPBlog
for more details and photos.

Triumph Street Pipe Band win
Grade 2 North American Championships
Congratulations to the new, improved Triumph
Street Pipe Band - winning the 2007 North American Championships
in Grade 2! TSPB is a rising star in the pipe band scene
and we can't wait to see where their hard work and talent
take them in years to come. We are particularly proud
of our three NWJPB alumni who play with the band and
helped them claim the title of North American Champs.
Well done!

Gung Haggis Fat Choy!
NWJPB was invited to perform in exchange for
dinner tickets at the newest and hottest event to hit
the Scottish and Chinese Communities in Seattle in years!
We opened the dinner with some well played marches.
We then had fun watching youth performers from the
Washington Chinese Youth Orchestra, "Toddish
McWong" performing "Gung Haggis Rap"
(Toast to a Haggis performed in Rap form) and many other
amazing performances, all while eating a great dinner.
We closed the show with another performance, and while
there were just over 100 attendees, they donated
$677.00 to the band's Scotland, 2008 fundraising effort!
What a unique and amazing event. Can't wait
until next year!

NWJPB Go Derby!
Rat
City Roller Girls 2006 Championships, October 21.
The Sockit Wenches asked a small group of our pipers
and drummers to come and "pipe them on" for
their championship match.
The Roller Derby was great fun to watch, the organization
was extremely friendly, and people really loved hearing
the pipes. And to top it all off - the Sockit Wenches
won the championship!! All in all, an amazingly fun
night. We donated this performance in exchange for T-shirts
and admission. As unlikely as it sounds, Roller Derby
is really a family friendly event. Check out their code
of conduct.

NWJPB on TV!
The band made an appearance on local talk show
Northwest
Afternoon. We recorded a public service announcement
about the band, which aired during the show. This was
our proverbial "15 seconds of fame". For real!
Our promo spot was only 15 seconds long! See
the video in our gallery. |

prizes at local competitions - Promoted to Grade 4! |

1st Place BC Games
|
|
The band did a fantastic job this past summer,
taking 1st place in nearly every contest. We received
some very good comments from the judges and will
be working hard to continue the upward momentum
of the group.
Many members of the band have also done well
in solo competitions, working hard and taking
home medals for their efforts.
UPDATE!
After a very successful year in Grade 5, the
NWJPB has recieved permission from the BCPA to
move up the Grade 4 level. We couldn't be more
excited, and will be working very hard. |

New Kilts Have
Arrived! |
| |
Our new kilts have finally
arrived and are looking good. We elected to stay with
our original tartan, the Modern MacKenzie, but have
switched to a lighter-weight wool. Our old kilts were
genuine British military issue, so they were extremely
heavy. |

Once again the
band makes the papers! |
| |
The Enterprise
Newspapers, which have editions covering Edmonds,
Lynnwood/Mountlake Terrace, MillCreek and Shoreline,
sent a reporter and photographer out to one of our practices
a few weeks ago. The article highlighted our kids' professionalism
and work ethic, along with our instructors' firm but
friendly approach to teaching.
