2011: An Awesome Year for NWJPB
The bands finished the 2011 competitive season with a bang!
Our grade 4 band, many of whom were on the field for the first time, improved steadily over the year and accomplished all of the goals they set forth last Fall. Next season should see the band sounding even better and taking the field with bigger numbers and more confidence. Many of the band members were successful in solo competition as well, bringing home prizes as well as experience. Onward and upward! We can't wait for next summer!
NWWSUPB 5th in the World!
This year our top pipers and drummers embarked on a musical adventure like no other. We joined forces with our friends the White Spot Pipe Band from Vancouver BC, creating the Northwest White Spot United Pipe Band. This was a one-year project intended to give our advanced players the opportunity to compete at a very high level and take their talents accross the pond to Scotland. The band practiced hard all Winter, then improved steadily with each contest this Summer, taking prizes along the way and preparing for the World Championships in Glasgow. In early August the band boarded a plane bound for Scotland and the real adventure began!
The band worked hard and played hard, placing 3rd at the North Berwick Highland Games, 2nd at the Bridge of Allan Highland Games (1st in piping) and then 5th place at the World Championships! It was a VERY successful run and a great learning experience.
Moving On, Moving Up
We had several graduates this year, moving on to other bands or away to college. In addition, several of the graduates will be here in Seattle helping us launch our new Grade 3 band. There is always something new happening in the NWJPB camp!
For now we head back to the practice hall to begin work on next year's tunes. We will also welcome several new players to the band and keep on doing what we do - teach kids to play and love pipes and drums.
